From the Archives: Minotaur Heads

Here are some quick minotaur head sketches from very long ago.  These two are the cleanest and clearest of larger set of sketches.

From the Archives: RPG Sci-Fi Versus

Here is another piece the previously mentioned  RPG portfolio.  This is one of my few Sci-Fi pieces.

From the Archives: Dark RPG Versus

Here we have an armed man struggling with some shadowy denizen.  This piece is from a older portfolio that I had created to present to RPG companies.  I think White Wolf had just exploded at the time.

From the Archives: Dream DiBit

These iridescent scarabs showed up in a couple of dreams I had long ago. They were about 3.5 inches long and about as thick as the width of a teaspoon.  The reproduction I've done here is close but I feel like it needs to be redrawn on black paper or some such.  I created the second image in Photoshop to get a little closer to their actual appearance and color from the dreams.  They seemed to have a black base color with a opalescent metallic sheen to them.

From the Archives: Earth Man

This is one of my first color explorations into working with Sharpies.  I think there may be some other type of marker involved here also.  This was at the very beginning before I converted to Sharpies only.

From the Archives: Lost Comic Page

This was the first page of a comic book project that got scrapped called He who Dies With The Most Toys.  I was doing the penciling, inking, and  lettering for the entire book.  I think it was just a bit over ambitious for my abilities at the time.

From the Archives: Little and Big

Here is a pair of demons I created to have Morbid Angel fight in a short comic book page sequence for my portfolio.

From the Archives: The Man Who Fought The Clock

This was a supporting character in one of my dark superhero stories, but I had considered at one point telling his tale separately as a singular horror piece.  He is nearly driven mad by his fight to preserve the world from a dark supernatural force.  He finds the ultimate enemy hidden behind the forces of power and corruption. It manifests to him as clocks.

From the Archives: The Phalman

"Androgynous but with a high level of brute strength, the Phalman is a savage and dangerous entity.  No one knows exactly where it came from or if its species is other than human.  Some speculate that it is a demon in the form of a man, others say that is like a werewolf but in a perpetual state of madness and savagery."

From the Archives: Khamael Sketch

Here we have another older sketch of Khamael.  When I was scanning this in I decided to play a bit in Photoshop.  I really just wanted to see what kind of molten fiery effects I could get out of his flame hair.  :-)

From the Archives: Khamael

After this piece was finished, I spent some time crying in observation of it.  There was a question emanating from my soul and this image emerged as the answer.  I felt like I was seeing something about myself and the world, an undeniable truth, an irrevocable limit.  At that time in my life, I was wrestling with issues involving conflict, self-confidence, fear, and initiating action.

From the Archives: Vampire

Several portrait sketches for a vampire character from a comic book fiction I was working on in the early 90's.  At the time I was very much into the giant hair.  Here though I see the beginning of some of my later more chiaroscuro visuals.

From the Archives: An Origin of Grahtennas

Here is an earlier drawing of the Arch Duke  Grahtennas.  At the time I drew this piece,  Grahtennas had a vastly different appearance and aspect.  He was more of a toad like goblin than an actual demon, but even then he was a type of royalty.  This is the second drawing I created of him.

From the Archives: Environments

Backgrounds have never been my strong suite.  Every now and again I try to spend some extra time exploring environmental spaces to increase my proficiency.  Here we have a couple of sketches of some dark spaces.  I had it in my mind to do a series of pieces focused on moody and/or creepy environments.  The idea never really became more than these two sketches, but I feel like it informed some of the feeling of later pieces.

From the Archives: Heads

These sketches were all drawn so close in time frame, I decided to post them  as a group.   Seeing them all together like this, they kind of look like a gang of creepy demon goblins here to cause trouble for some intrepid hero / heroine.  But who is their dark master?  hmmm...maybe I will make these guys into a super villain team.

UPDATE 031213:  To find out what dark flower grew from these sketches, check out my posts for The Devil's Square.

From the Archives: Rotting Apple Teeth

A sketch from long ago.  A Goblin named Rotting Apple Teeth.  He's a yucky mix of Blix from Legend and that damned clown doll from the first Poltergeist movie.  I suspect he is involved with the frightening of children.

This piece was Exhumed and reinvestigated with color and fiction in September 2014.  Check out the Exhumed image here.
